Introduction

Welcome to CarNEO.

CarNEO is a platform that enables consent-driven data collection from large-scale vehicle fleets of the Volkswagen Group.

Vehicles collect and bundle data into packages called samples, which are sent to the CarNEO backend. Users may connect a consumer backend; these third‑party processors subscribe to CarNEO's data stream. When a sample becomes available, subscribed processors are notified and may pull the sample.

If you are new to CarNEO, start with the onboarding guide: Getting Started If you need assistance, do not hesitate to contact our team.

Data Ownership, Retention, and Protection

CarNEO is a data enabler: it provides the infrastructure to collect, buffer, and forward data.
The Data Owner is the registered user and its associated Third‑Party Processors.
How data is stored and who has access to it is determined by the Data Owner.

  • When a consent is revoked by the Data Owner, stored data is automatically deleted on the CarNEO backend.
  • Once data is passed to a Third‑Party Processor, retention is managed by that Third‑Party Processor.
  • Samples that have not been pushed from CarNEO to a Third‑Party Processor are stored until the user revokes the consents.
  • Data can also be deleted by certified Volkswagen Backend Admins on behalf of the Data Owner.
  • No mechanisms are used that alter the data's original informational value.
  • Unauthorized access by third parties is not possible due to the security mechanisms of the infrastructure in use.
